Introducing Bormio's oldest businesses
During your stay in Bormio, look out for Levissima, Braulio, Brielli, Taneda and Ski Trab.
Mineral water, liqueurs aged in oak casks, boiled sweets and ski equipment are just some of the products made (or bottled) right here in Bormio.
When enjoying a leisurely passeggiata along via Roma in Bormio's old town, just remember that beneath your feet lies a warren of cellars where Amaro Braulio has been made and stored since 1875. Take a guided tour and see the old oak casks used to age this after-dinner treat.
Bottled in Capitania, Valdisotto, Levissima is one of the most popular mineral waters in Italy. The water flows from a spring on the edge of the Stelvio National Park in Alta Valtellina and has been bottled and sold since 1936.
These hard sweets come in all sorts of flavours, including mountain herbs, fruits and honey. Brielli is a local institution here in Bormio, founded in 1921 when Teodosio Brielli wanted to create a soothing sweet for patients at the sanatorium in Sondalo.
Here in Bormio, skiing is a serious business. Especially for a certain Giacomo Trabucchi, who in 1946 built the first skis made from solid wood and went on to found what was to become Ski Trab. This renowned ski maker manufactures skis, bindings, poles and other equipment for winter sports like ski touring and cross-country skiing.
If you go for a hike here in the summer, you'll find the mountainside is teeming with aromatic Alpine herbs. These same herbs, collected from over 2,000 m above sea level, are used in Ericini's liqueurs. The most well known of which, Taneda, is made using achillea moschata, aka musk milfoil (the name Taneda comes from the flower's name in local dialect).
