Con questa tappa breve ma di sensibile dislivello il Sentiero Italia abbandona le maestose vette dell’alta Valmalenco per trasferirsi tra le cime che si affacciano direttamente sulla Valtellina proseguendo il cammino verso est. Dal Rifugio Cristina si saluta l’ultimo ghiacciaio della zona che scende dalla cima del Pizzo Scalino, da cui prende il nome, che si contorna durante il corso dell’intera giornata. Una prima salita conduce al Passo degli Ometti con una seguente discesa e risalita al Passo Forame. Da qui si scende al Rifugio Cederna Maffina nella valle scavata dal torrente Fontana, affluente diretto dell’Adda.
