Stelvio E-Bike Tour - Along the Adda River, Through History and Villages

The Adda River runs alongside this route, designed for those who want to explore the area at a leisurely pace, cycling through rural landscapes, small villages, and remarkable works of art.

From the historic center of Bormio, you can easily reach Cepina by following secondary roads and short stretches of bike path. Here, the Cepina Ossuary—one of the most unique in the entire Valtellina—is well worth a stop. The elegant wrought-iron gate, the 17th-century frescoes, and the unique fantastical figures decorating the pediment tell a story woven from art, faith, and symbolism, where the theme of life’s transience intertwines with that of hope.

Continuing south, the route leads to the Church of San Bartolomeo, which was miraculously spared by the devastating landslide in Val Pola in 1987. Inside, it houses precious fresco cycles created between the 14th and 16th centuries, a testament to Valtellina’s great tradition of painting, while the ancient ossuary serves as a reminder of the role these buildings played in the lives of Alpine communities.

The return trip toward Bormio can be made almost entirely along the Sentiero Viola bike path.
