Autumn excursions 2026: The stag rut

The beginning of autumn is the season of deer mating. The males put on a display with their roaring; the clearings in the forest echo with their calls.
In this way, they try to intimidate rival males and attract as many females as possible into their harem.
If roaring is not enough to frighten the other males, it can even come to a “contest”: a sort of “arm wrestle” of antler against antler.

  The excursion is part of the Interreg MAP-Rezia project, dedicated to the study and monitoring of biodiversity, and includes an itinerary that partly follows the Cammino dei Tre Parchi.
  Note: access road to Cancano subject to a toll - ticket machines along the uphill routes
