Bormio and the Alta Valtellina can boast a millennial history and culture, which is visible in every corner and perspective in the valley, but also visible within several museums. Ethnography, art, nature, and history, nothing is left to chance, with an eye to children and young people, so they can continue to pass on the history and traditions in the future.
Art, history, nature and old traditions
The Civic Museum of Bormio has a rich collection historical, artistic, and ethnographic, where important works of art are blended with objects of everyday use. Of particular interest is a section dedicated to war relics, to the ancient skis, and to means of transportation of the past, from coaches to sleds.
An obligatory stop for those who love precious stones and minerals is the Mineralogical Museum in Bormio, and for those who love nature, the Visitor Center Baita dal Parco in Valfurva, created in order to provide an overview of the natural and human aspects of the Stelvio National Park.
The Museo Vallivo Valfurva “Mario Testorelli”, is the ideal place for those who want to know the rural world, with collections of traditional objects and reconstructions of work activities from the past. Plus there is a section dedicated to the First World War.
At the Stelvio Pass is the Historical Museum Donegani, open only in summer, which reconstructs the history of the Stelvio Pass when it was the theater of epic battles during the First World War, as shown by the ruins found near the Stelvio Pass. There is also history from the modern era, as the protagonist of cycling battled during different editions of the Giro D’Italia.
