23/09/2017 – During autumn there are lot of occasions to discover history and traditions of Bormio thanks to extended opening of many museums in the area.

Museums open in Autumn in Bormio

It was built in 1962 and became civic in 1967. The Civic Museum of Bormio is organized in 14 rooms, it manages a collection of 3,000 pieces divided into two sections: the historic-artistic section preserves important works and objects coming from churches and buildings of Bormio and the ethnography section is provided with tools and furniture of the textile, agricultural, dairy, carpentry, livestock and transport activity.

The museum manages the neighbouring medieval Church of S. Spirito as well.

The mineralogical section offers an interesting collection of stone’s fragments and cristals collected in the mountains of Valtellina from the founder and owner of the museum, the naturalist Edy Romani.

In the zoology section, models represent the life and habits of the alpine fauna. It preserves a rich and precious collection of cristals and fossils of Valtellina.

Museums open in autumn in Bormio : mineralogic naturalistic museum

On top of the Stelvio Pass at an altitude of 2,758 metres, it is possible to visit the historic museum “Carlo Donegani” which allows to discover the history of the highest second Pass of Europe.

The exhibition is divided into three sections: the blue section dedicated to the Great War on the Stelvio Pass, the red section which recalls the big events (mainly sportive events) happened at SS38 road and lastly the green section that rebuilds the history of the Stelvio road, which is a masterpiece of the engineer Carlo Donegani, in the beginning of XIX century.

Museums open in autumn in Bormio: Carlo Donegani Great War Museum

The Alpine Rezia Botanical Garden was launched in 1982 in Bormio in order to collect and arrange alpine flora species present in the Stelvio National Park.

Floral species are more than 2,000 and they are submurged in their natural habitat. In the Botanical Garden it’s possible to observe botanic alpine species from other regions, for instance: from our Alps to Andean and Himalayan chains.

Museums open in autumn in Bormio: Botanical rezia alpine garden

The Oga Fort is located at an altitude of 1,730 meters, in an area called Dossaccio.

Oga Fort was built between 1908 and 1914 to protect the main alpine valleys to prevent from a possible conflict with Austria and/or a likely enemy crossing from the close Switzerland.

The entrance to the Fort is characterized by a stone bridge which allows to cross a peat bog and takes to the natural reserve of Paluaccio, established in 1983.

The Visitor Center in S. Antonio Valfurva was born to provide an overview of the natural and human aspects of the National Park based on three fundamental themes:
