At 1,992 metres above sea level, the San Marco Pass links Valtellina with Val Brembana across the Orobie Alps. Its history is deeply intertwined with trade and defence: in the 16th century, the Republic of Venice built the Via Priula here to facilitate commerce with the Grisons and provide a direct route between Bergamo and Valtellina.
Surrounded by high pastures and towering peaks, the pass still exudes the atmosphere of historic trade routes, offering travellers a journey through both nature and history.
