Excursion in Rezzalo Valley from Frontanaccia to Il Merlo – Where the stream sings and the greenery breathes
From Fumero, a hamlet of Sondalo, you can reach the parking area of Fontanaccia (subject to a fee, so make sure you get a ticket from the parking meter located before the hamlet, immediately after a tunnel - the cost of the ticket is not included in the excursion price). From the parking area (1.508m), follow the dirt road that leads into Rezzalo Valley. The beginning of the route, which initially winds through lush woodland among pastures and hay meadows, is uphill but never very steep, and reaches the grassy plain that leads to the church of S. Bernardo (1.853m). The entire route runs alongside the Rezzalasco stream, which is torrential at the beginning of the hike but becomes a placid stream in the plain of S. Bernardo, branching out into meanders. Continue along the lower road, passing by the church and continuing to Il Merlo (1.896m), where there is a cozy picnic area. The return journey can be made along the same route as the outward journey or, with a little more climbing, by turning right at the Ronzone Lodges to pass by the Rezzalo Lodges and Rifugio La Baita.
