At 1,815 metres above sea level, the Maloja Pass is a captivating Swiss Alpine crossing that links the Engadin with the Bregaglia Valley and, in turn, Valchiavenna. Located in the Canton of Grisons, it connects Chiavenna and St. Moritz along a route of outstanding scenic beauty. On the Bregaglia side, a towering rock face forms the backdrop to a stunning series of hairpin bends, a true paradise for motorcyclists and lovers of panoramic drives. Beyond the border, the road ascends gently through the villages of Stampa and Bregaglia to Casaccia, where the final, steeper section of switchbacks leads to the pass. On the opposite side lies the wide plateau of the Upper Engadin, with its famous lakes and open vistas. Used since Roman times as a vital trade and transit route between northern and southern Europe, Maloja has for centuries been a meeting point of peoples, stories and cultures – and still enchants travellers today with its sweeping views and rich history.
