In autumn, the Cancano lake area is transformed into a natural painting: the larch trees are colored with different shades of yellow, the sunlight filters through the branches creating warm and enveloping reflections, all contrasting with the intense colors of the water. It's the perfect time to enjoy an immersive excursion in this unique area of the park, discovering the wonderful alpine foliage.
The meeting point is at 9:30 am at the San Giacomo di Fraele parking, after the picnic area. From here, a guided hike starts along the easy dirt road that winds through the Alpisella valley, among larch forests and panoramic views. The route is easy and suitable for even inexperienced hikers.
During the hike, the guide will illustrate the characteristics of the alpine landscape in autumn, explaining the particular transformation of the larch tree—the only conifer that loses its leaves—and the ecological dynamics that make foliage such a fascinating phenomenon. There will also be interesting facts about the local flora and fauna, as well as stops to enjoy the views, take photos, and observe nature at a leisurely pace.
The route includes stops at the most picturesque points in the valley, reaching the Alpisella Valley Pass and passing by the sources of the Adda River. A day in the open air, to breathe in autumn with all your senses and be enchanted by the colors of the mountains before the arrival of winter.
