Excursion Refuge Forni - Pizzini - Branca. A day as a researcher: the life of alpine marmots
A circular excursion in the heart of Val Cedec, starting from Refuge Forni (2,178 m). The trail winds towards the Refuge Pizzini (2,706 m), crossing high-altitude meadows, where we will meet researchers from the Park engaged in their study of the ecology of the alpine marmot, a curious sentinel of the mountain, particularly common in this valley. From Pizzini, we continue towards the Refuge Branca (2,493 m), along a path that offers spectacular views of the Forni Glacier. Here, one can reflect on the “Year of the Glaciers”, an initiative that highlights the importance of these white giants as water reserves and climate indicators, now dramatically retreating due to climate change.
The return to Refuge Forni concludes a fascinating and varied route, ideal for those seeking a day of hiking among alpine fauna and glacial panoramas.
