SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Being a small hamlet, fairly detached from urban centers, there has been little contamination in beliefs and traditions, which have been preserved much more than elsewhere. The persistence of certain rituals (such as the Tadè flame, the cult of St. Colombano, and marzarol) is completely exceptional and has become a very powerful identity factor among the inhabitants. Although some of these rituals today reflect a certain cultural change (such as marzarol or the Stella procession, which in the past were unifying for the youth but now tend to disappear, replaced by other "rites"), for other traditions the worship is very much alive in all social strata, probably because they have adapted better to the present day. Oga is located on an extremely sunny panoramic balcony, overlooking Bormio and Valdidentro. It is the northernmost hamlet of the municipality of Valdisotto (= a very ancient denomination already attested in 1309 along with the equally common one of "Valle de Cipina").
EQUIPMENT: Normal hiking gear recommended. Hiking boots and poles are recommended.
