SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Adjacent to the parish church, the Ossuary of Cepina is an artistic and architectural gem from the 18th century. Built starting in 1719 with the support of the local community, it is distinguished by its extraordinary wrought iron gate—one of a kind—crafted by blacksmith Giuseppe Pini from Grosio.
Inside, it houses a powerful cycle of frescoes by Gian Pietro Ligari and Alessandro Valdani, offering profound reflections on life and death through striking biblical scenes.
In 1933, it was converted into a baptistery, symbolizing the connection between rebirth into new life and eternal rest.
Also noteworthy are the stone tabernacle from 1579 and the fresco of the Death of Saint Joseph, originally from the now-lost Chapel of Saint Cajetan in Bormio.
