Bormio

Museums & Exhibitions

Get ready to discover Braulio, the herbal bitter from Bormio made with 13 herbs and medicinal plants.
Braulio is a natural bitter that carries the aromas and flavors of the nature of Valtellina, around the town of Bormio. Aged for up to two years in Slavonian oak barrels, it is still produced today, and has been for 150 years, with the same care and passion as when it was first created.

In the first half of the 19th century, Dr. Giuseppe Peloni founded the pharmacy in Bormio, a small alpine town surrounded by slopes where nature is diverse and grows lush. Curious about the flora around him, he decided to study it and pass on his knowledge to his son Francesco, an alchemist, who during his experiments with herbal infusions, created the Braulio bitter in 1875. Time is the most precious ingredient. A minimum of 15 months of aging in barrel is required to make Braulio what it is.

Casa Bràulio: guided tours of the Cellars

You can experience a unique sensory experience by participating in a guided tour of the Braulio Cellars. Located beneath the pavement of via Roma, a few meters below the Peloni family home, the Cellars were expanded in the 1970s to accompany the growing popularity of Braulio. Meticulously restored in 2017, the extraordinary labyrinth now hosts 319 barrels in an underground space of 1,600 square meters.

Discover the production and aging process that makes this liqueur unique, exploring the underground areas among antique barrels, light installations, and tastings.
