Snow in August! To escape the heat of summer, we like to head up to the Stelvio glacier to go skiing. If you can’t wait for winter to enjoy a day on the slopes, then don’t miss the opening of the ski lifts on the Stelvio in the summer. Snow-capped mountains, perfect pistes and wintry temperatures await you!
Put on your skis and take a lift to the very top of the mountain, under a clear blue sky. In Bormio, you really can ski all year round.
When the traditional winter season ends, the summer season begins on the Stelvio glacier, the biggest summer skiing resort in the Alps. An incredible opportunity to go skiing in a beautiful high-altitude setting, surrounded by the imposing summits of the Ortles-Cevedale range, in the heart of the Stelvio National Park.
The Stelvio Glacier
The Stelvio ski area offers more than 20 km of pistes to suit all abilities and 6 ski lifts, taking you from a height of 2,758 m at the Stelvio Pass up to 3,450 m on Monte Cristallo.
If you are an experienced skier, you can practice your high-speed turns and improve your technique, ready for the winter season.
Alternatively, if you want to learn to ski on the Stelvio glacier, you can book a skiing lesson with the instructors from the Bormio ski school and you may even bump into the stars of the Italian national ski team who come to the Stelvio for their summer training camps.
There is also a cross-country skiing piste on the glacier and a number of routes for ski touring.
