The rebirth of nature

The long winter has ended and nature is slowly awakening from its long hibernation – as are the animals of the Stelvio National Park. On the meadows the snow melts and makes room for the Snowdrop, the earliest spring flower, which will be followed by many more species, filling the environment with color and gaiety.

Longing for Sun and Warmth

In spring, everyone is ready for the sun, the warmer days, and the chance to spend more time outdoors. These are the last days for winter skiing, and avid skiers with have to wait a few weeks for the summer skiing to begin at the Stelvio Pass.  In the high mountains, as the snow slowly melts, the refuges are reopening their doors. Some refuges are still only accessible by snowshoe and cross-country or back-country skis, while others can be reached hiking and biking on the trails. This is the time to pull out road bikes, mtb and hiking boots and to resume walking and cycling, perhaps training before the opening of the legendary alpine passes. Also, as the lakes and rivers thaw, you can begin to fish.

The relaxation of the thermal baths at Bormio’s spa resorts is guaranteed throughout the year, but in the spring, with the snow melting throughout the Valtellina, you can enjoy a splendid panorama from the outdoor swimming pools.

Spring is return to life and, in Bormio, we celebrate it on Easter Day with our most beautiful tradition, the Pasquali.

Spring is also when one looks forward to dining outside (Bormio has been officially recognized as “highly commended” for the award “Gastronomic locations of the year” presented by The Telegraph Ski and Snowboard), heated by the warm rays of the sun, or to taking a nice walk along the ancient streets of Bormio, looking at how the homes, as well as the people, are coming back to life after their winter hibernation.
