| YOUR HOLIDAY STARTS FROM HERE
Bormio is located in the center of the Alta Valtellina, and thus it is easy to reach various nearby locations, including those in the province of Sondrio, the neighboring region of Trentino Alto Adige, and the Swiss canton of Grisons. In addition to the classic winter and summer sports, in the outskirts of Bormio and in the surrounding areas, you will also find alternative and peculiar activities such as rafting, the Larix Adventure park, and the Fly Emotion zip line.
The richness of the Valtellina
The Valtellina is full of beautiful landscapes and quaint villages that definitely deserve a visit. Plan to stop in Grosio, with its prehistoric rock engravings, and Tirano, where you will find the Marian Shrine, the most important church of the province of Sondrio. Tirano is also the departure point for “Il Trenino Rosso del Bernina” (The Little Red Train) which travels through the Swiss Canton of Grisons to St. Moritz and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Of particular interest is the town of Livigno, often called the “Little Tibet,” as it is tax free zone of Italy and a famous tourist destination noted for its skiing and mountain biking. Not to be forgotten along the middle part of the Valtellina is the “Via dei Terrazzamenti” (the trail along the terraced vineyards). These terraced vineyards are on the sunny, south facing,“Rhaetian” side of the valley, and along with the numerous wineries in the area, are well worth a visits.
Just outside of the Valtellina
Nearby, but just outside of the Valtellina, are several sites that deserve a visit: Glorenza, a small medieval village in the Venosta Valley, Trentino Alto Adige, St. Moritz, the pearl of the upper Engadine Valley in Switzerland, and a tourist destination among the most renowned in the world, and the Neuschwanstein Castle in Schwangau, Germany, which was used as a model by Walt Disney for his cartoon “Sleeping Beauty”.
