| YOUR HOLIDAY STARTS FROM HERE
For those who love to ski and would like to ski throughout the entire year, they will feel right at home in the Alta Valtellina, as there is skiing a full 365 days each year. In the winter season from late November to April, you can satisfy your whims on the slopes at Bormio—perhaps trying out the legendary Stelvio run—plus S. Caterina Valfurva, Isolaccia in Valdidentro, and Oga/S. Colombano, while in the summer season you can head for the Stelvio Pass.
Skiing even in August
There are more than 12.4 miles (20 km) of slopes between the Stelvio Pass (9048 feet /2758 meters) and Monte Cristallo (11319 feet/3450 meters), which are served by 6 ski lifts, including two trams that connect the Stelvio Pass with the hotel/refuge Livrio. These slopes have 8 groomed runs, all red or blue, 1 run for springtime out-of-bounds, plus 2 Nordic skiing tracks, from Stelvio Pass to Livrio, the competition track at Cristallo, and a track for the flying start kilometer: these are the facilities that make the Stelvio Pass glacier the largest summer ski area of the Alps.
Open from May to November and surrounded by the imposing peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale group, the Stelvio Pass glacier is the ideal environment to learn and improve your technique of any snow sport: from skis to snowboard, from accompanied out-of-bounds skiing to Nordic skiing.
The ski runs, marked as blue or red, cater to a range of abilities, from hobbyists to professionals. And for the most expert, there are many spectacular tracks for skiing out-of-bounds. For the lovers of the Nordic skiing, instead there are three Nordic tracks.
Train with the champions
The option to train at altitude in the summer, while remaining in Europe, attracts numerous national teams, which come to the Stelvio Pass glacier to prepare for the winter season, for both downhill and Nordic skiing. Thanks to the altitude and the fact that they can find well groomed and snowy tracks all summer, there are many champions that choose the Stelvio Pass glacier for their workouts.
