Nordic skiing means fatigue, but also direct contact with nature. Gliding along the tracks, for those who love the classic technique, or skating, for those who prefer the free-technique, you can approach, in silence and calmness, the alpine environment of Bormio and its valleys, inside the magical scenery of the Stelvio National Park.

A proposal for everyone, from first-time skiers to experts

Bormio offers lovers of Nordic skiing a 3.1 mile (5 kmloop called theAlute,” which has ups, downs, and long straights. Suitable for beginners who want to learn the rudiments, but it is also good for those more expert who are looking for a relaxed ski.

In the town of S.Caterina Valfurva is the Valtellina Nordic Center, which has already been the site for international competitions, and which winds through the woods of the Stelvio National Park. The Valtellina Nordic Center has a competition course, with various length options from 3.1 to 6.2 miles (5 to 10 km), which is characterized by continuous ups and downs that are quite demanding, and is appreciated by more expert cross-country skiers. Alternatively, there is the tourist track of 5 miles (8 km), which only shares the flat sections with the competition course.

In Valdidentro the Pista “Viola” winds through the woods alongside the Viola river. The tourist track has options up to 15.5 miles (25 km) in length, and is without significant climbs or descents. This permits Nordic skiers to alter the distance of the track by selecting from several well marked shortcuts. The racing track, on the other hand, is particularly well-known and is approved to host international competitions.

Cross country skiing even in summer

In the summer months lovers of Nordic skiing won’t be disappointed, as from the end of May to November, there are two Nordic tracks at the Stelvio Pass; the Stelvio Pass loop and the Cristallo loop.

For those just starting out with Nordic Skiing, there are ski schools in each Nordic ski area, which can help you with lessons and rental equipment.

Practising sports and outdoor activities during winter is good for both body and soul. Find out what Bormio has to offer.
