The biathlon in Lombardy
The biathlon center in Valdidentro opened in the winter season 2007/2008, and is the only facility in Lombardy where it is possible to practice this spectacular Olympic sport which combines cross country skiing with small-caliber rifle shooting. The biathlon center is composed of two quite distinct firing ranges. At Le Motte, located in a pine forest along a 3.72 mile (6 km) Nordic track (roller ski in the summer), there are 8 targets of different shapes. Instead, the range at the cross-country skiing center of Valdidentro, located along the Nordic ski track of Viola, is composed of 30 sophisticated electronic targets placed at 50 meters from the shooting stands, and is regularly certified for competition. The biathlon center is available by reservation, and is open to individuals, groups, and ski clubs.
Activities for all seasons
The biathlon center in Valdidentro, situated in a natural area between the river Viola and the wooded slopes of the Mount Masucco, under the watchful eyes of the Towers of Fraele, is the site of important national and international competitions. It is also an important training center, in both summer and winter, for numerous Italian and foreign teams, as well as being the base for the Skiing Club Alta Valtellina, which is proud to have placed some athletes on the National Team A. In addition to the range, the center includes a multi-purpose building, which is available to athletes and teams, plus the 15.5 mile (25 km) long Viola Nordic ski track.
