Bormio 360 - Tappa 2 - Sentiero Decauville

During the twentieth century many areas of the Valtellina were involved in constructing hydroelectric plants, and in preparation for building a dam, a railway called a Decauville was usually built. Named after their French inventor, these narrow gauge railways were particularly suited for mountainous, and other difficult areas. Once the construction of the hydroelectric plant was completed, the Decauville remained as a service road, which is still practicable today. The Decauville that goes from the Towers of Fraele to Arnoga is about 10 km long, completely flat, and is suitable for everyone (even for the disabled). On this Decauville, one can hike and bike during the summer, and enjoy the dog sleds in winter.
