Here’s why the German Cross Country Eliminator Champion loves to train in Bormio.
The 26-year-old woman’s prime focus is mountain biking but she enjoys road cycling and its training benefits ahead of the season. Around Bormio, Nadine can take full advantage of the high passes such as the Stelvio, the Gavia and Mortirolo, as well as mountain bike trails in the Stelvio National Park and the Bormio wellness facilities which include the three thermal spas QC Terme Bagni Nuovi, Bagni Vecchi and Bormio Terme. Together these opportunities and infrastructure create the ideal environment for athlete training and regeneration.
Nadine Rieder: here’s why I have chosen Bormio, the wellness mountain
You have collected countless titles during the past years. Which ones are you especially proud of?
As a German rider, I’m especially happy about last year’s German championship title at Cross Country Eliminator. The podium result at the 2013 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Albstadt and winning the international cross country race in Muttenz/Basel are all highlights for me.
When have you been in Bormio for the first time?
My first time in Bormio was during a photo shoot about four years ago. Shortly afterwards during a road bike training I passed through Bormio, while I did some altitude training with the national team. Both times the region has left a very positive impression on me.
Why have you decided to train in Bormio?
As I said, I liked Bormio immediately. Its scenery is stunning and the training facilities are perfect. In addition, I feel comfortable there and that is really important if you are a testimonial for a region. Of course, the fact that I am half Italian also fits.
What is special about Bormio in your opinion?
Training is important but the recovery time is also crucial, so for me I enjoy the relaxation and regeneration facilities that Bormio offers. Taking a bath in the thermal spas works miracles, it relaxes the muscles and reinvigorates. Another important aspect for training is food and Bormio has some fantastic restaurants.
