The Valfurva opens on the east side of the valley of Bormio and goes for about 15.5 miles miles (25 km) up into the Ortler-Cevedale group of mountains.

It is composed of many villages, among which are S. Nicolò, seat of the municipality, and S. Caterina Valfurva, a renowned tourist resort both in summer and in winter.

Tourism in 360°

In a spectacular alpine environment, within the Stelvio National Park, Valfurva offers plenty of opportunities: hiking and mountain biking in some of the most beautiful valleys of the Alta Valtellina, such as the Val Zebru and Val Cedec, where on can climb up to admire the wonderful panorama of the Forni glacier. For road cycling enthusiasts, it’s enough to mention one name: the Gavia Pass.

In winter, on the other hand, is the season of snow sports: skiing, in all its varieties, is centered in S. Caterina Valfurva on whose slopes Deborah Compagnoni, multi-Olympic champion, grew up and trained. Even lovers of Nordic skiing will not be disappointed thanks to the Valtellina track, with loops for both racers and  tourists.

However, Valfurva is not only about sports, but also about culture. The Museum Vallivo “Mario Testorelli” is in S. Antonio, and presents reconstructions of the farming life that once existed in the Valfurva. At the Visitor Center Baita dal Parco you can discover all the secrets of the Stelvio National Park, with an eye on the bearded vulture.
