Do you think you know all about our ski area? Discover some little curiosities!

Bormio is a real paradise for snow lovers. Hereafter, we give you some curiosities regarding the ski world which make Bormio unique and inimitable

Did you know that…

– the Bormio ski area has a vertical drop of 1800 meters from Cima Bianca (3012 meters) to Bormio (1225 meters)! For those who want to live the emotion of this endless ski run, we suggest to try the Peak to Creek in schedule every January (have a look);

– Bormio is one of the few alpine ski resorts where it is possible to ski all year around: from May to November you can try the slopes of the glacier at the Stelvio Pass, which is the largest summer ski resort in all Europe! Here you can meet some of the Ski World Cup champions who come for their training camp. From the end of November to April the ski areas of Bormio and its surrounding Valleys (Bormio, S.Caterina Valfurva, Cima Piazzi Happy Mountain in Valdidentro and Oga/S.Colombano in Valdisotto) offer you more than 115 kilometers of slopes;

– the Stelvio ski run is one of the most beautiful trails of downhill skiing in the world. Here great champions like Alberto Tomba, Lasse Kjus, Pirmin Zurbriggen and Hermann Maier have triumphed. The craziest? No doubt, Bode Miller! During the Alpine Ski World Cup in 2005, he lost one of his skis, but, nevertheless, he continued his descent in full speed on the drop off. Have a look at his adventure;

– the so called “Blue Avalanche”, the national ski team that, on January 7th 1974, during the giant slalom of the Ski World Cup in Berchtesgaden, placed 5 Italians in the first 5 positions, was trained by two coaches from Valtellina: Mario Cotelli and Oreste Peccedi, the authentic citizen of Bormio;

– in Bormio the first ski lifts appeared in the 50s, from town level (1,225 m) to Ciuk (1,650 m)
