Sports for all, 365 days a year
For those who are looking for an active holiday including virtually all sports , then Bormio in the Alta Valtellina is the ideal destination. In fact, there are many opportunities in every season. Take a look!
The Alta Valtellina is a paradise for those who love the snow: between downhill skiing, snowboarding, telemark skiing, freeride, backcountry skiing, and biathlon you will be spoiled for the number of choices—both in winter and in summer (at the Stelvio Pass). Lovers of ice sports can experiment with curling or challenge the champions on the short track at the Ice Rink, which is open in the summer.
For hiking, Nordic walking, and mountain running you will have more than 372 miles (600 km) of trails in the Stelvio National Park, many of which can be traveled in winter with snowshoes. Immersed in nature, you can also do excursions on horseback, with the sled dogs in winter, or with the husky trekking in summer.
Summer is also the season for road cycling, and with it the challenge of the legendary alpine passes of the Stelvio, Gavia, and Mortirolo. On the other hand, those who prefer mountain biking will not be disappointed by the large selection of trails for downhill, cross country, and freeride. Or for those who prefer to ride with peace of mind, there are plenty of bike paths, and for children, there is the bike and skill center. There is also the bike sharing program, so it’s possible to use a city bike free of charge.
For those who want to challenge nature, what could be better than rock climbing and bouldering in summer or ice climbing a frozen waterfall in winter?
And furthermore, there is bocce, tennis, fishing, and archery, plus there are gyms for fitness and athletic drills, or to play volleyball, soccer, and basketball. Not forgetting that one can find the speed of the go kart, and the leisure of the golf with a 9-hole course, both nestled in the beautiful atmosphere of the Rhaetian Alps.
